Dentek Easy Brushes

After a busy couple of months for The Kats Paws, I’ve started to think of a few features that will be uploaded in the New Year. One, which a lot of bloggers and vloggers do, is ‘What’s In My Bag?’- mine will probably be a long one as I have the world’s biggest bags and are rammed with everything but the kitchen sink; make up and beauty products, 15 hair bobbles, sweets, chewing gum, cards for every store you can think of, pens, notebooks, occasionally a couple of pairs of sunglasses (yes, in winter), actual glasses (that I hardly ever wear and really should!), a lot of crumbs and the must have item for every girls bag – about 71 receipts that are so old that the print has worn off and I have no idea what it was that I bought!

Recently, we were sent something that has been in my handbag for a couple of weeks now, and that is a packet of Dentek Brushes. I hate how my mouth feels after eating lunch and into the afternoon and would love to sit at my desk and give my teeth a good brush sometimes, but sadly, I think it would be frowned upon.

I love Extra chewing gum, and currenty have a box of Anatomicals mints in my bag too (more on Anatomicals products coming soon!), but sometimes, a little nifty brush in the gaps is exactly what you need!

They’re an easy way to floss and deep clean around trouble spots, removing plaques and tiny pieces of food that you miss when brushing. The durable, tapered brush is easy to use and the handle features a non-slip flexible grip for comfort and control. They also have a really thin wire on the brush part, so can get into the smallest of gaps or slight overlaps.

They’re a great alternative to dental floss too, which is oftern fiddly, slippery and, let’s face it, looks a bit minging when you pull it out of your mouth.

Not only are they easy to use and make your mouth feel cleaner, they’re also an excellent extra bit of dental care. And, as you know from previous posts, we’re always trying to get the whitest teeth you can imagine.

They’re also really good for people who wear braces, as they clean any extra bits stuck really carefully without damaging your brace or teeth!

I’d suggest everyone get some of these, as they’re such a handy and cheap little thing that you can carry around all the time! They have handy little lids so can be stored and reused hygienically, and also have a fresh mint taste!

The brushes are about £3 per pack dependent on the style and amount in the pack. For more information visit!

Impress Press-On Manicure by Broadway Nails

I used to absolutely love having acrylic nails done, but after a painful and unfortunate incident involving a sliding balcony door, a stressed Emily trying to get ready in 40 degree heat and a set of freshly painted coral acrylics, I’ve kind of gone off them.

My friends have been getting Shellac done on their nails recently and the results are incredible, so I’m going to definitely start getting that done in the New Year, but at present, we’ve had so many nail varnises and nails to review, I let the Shellac take a back seat.

Last week, I decided to test out the Impress nails. They were a gorgeous pink colour, which I loved.

The nails came in a cute plastic bottle, in a similar shape to a nail varnish bottle, which i thought was a really good touch, but the best part about them was that there was no glue! They call it a ‘revolutionary way to apply polish’ which includes:

  • + No drying time
  • + Superior, lasting shine
  • + Easy removal
  • + Lasts up to a week

Firstly, I prepped my nails. As you can see, they were vile.

I then matched each nail to the size of the stick ons, which was pretty easy to do, peeled off the back and pressed them down.

Voila, I had nails!

My only qualm is that they didn’t last very long… one witheld a single night, and I ended up losing another so pulled the rest off.

However, if you are going on a night out and need your nails doing perfectly and quickly, these are a brilliant solution!

Flexitol Hand Balm and Lip Balm

The weather has been surprisingly mild recently really hasn’t it. I mean, usually at this time of the year we have about 6 inches of sludge to wade through. I’m still in my leather jacket, but LOVING my tartan Zara scarf (£19.99)

However, my hands and lips are feeling the chill a lot more than anywhere else. I’m usually a fan of Soap and Glory hand cream, as i love the smell, but I have a new favourite and that is Flexitol Hand Balm. I use the Flexitol heel balm in the summer months, and I’ve never been let down by it, so couldn’t wait to give these products a go.

The bottle says it is for very dry hands, with rapid relief, moisturises, protects and claims that I would feel the difference from Day 1.

They really are not lying- my hands are so soft and moisturised. I started out using it a few times a day, after washing my hands or coming in from the cold usually, but since using it I only find myself applying it about once a day!

It also smells lovely, not chemically in the slightest, yet with a lemony scent to it.

I’ve also been using Flexitol lip balm for severely dry and chapped lips. I had a cold a few weeks ago and this was a GOD SEND, making my lips feel back to their old selves.

My lips also looks softer and smoother and there is no dryness or discomfort.

I would definitely recommend anyone with either chapped hands or chapped lips to try these out- they’re miracle workers!

Prices vary for these items, but the hand balm comes in at around £4 and the lip balm just over £3.

Elegant Touch Envy Wraps

Holly’s done another post for us on her opinion of the nail wraps!

“I know it’s not a very girly thing to declare, but I’m not a big fan of doing my nails. In fact I have never actually stepped foot in a nail salon. It’s not that I don’t like my nails to look good, I paint them regularly; it’s just that I’m not really into the fussing about of it all…I’m more of a get ready and go kind of girl, if you catch my drift.

So when The KatsPaws asked me to try out an at-home nail art kit, I had my reserves. But taking the approach of a complete manicure-virgin, I prepped my talons for a bit of pampering and dived right in. Here’s what I found, as a completely clueless first-timer, about nail wraps and accents.

Elegant Touch are quite the heavy weight when it comes to nail art, and have ranges by House Of Holland and Little Mix. They’re also very reasonably priced at around £5 per pack from most major pharmacies, so they are convenient to pick up with the rest of your shopping.

I prepped my nails with a clear based coat, as per the instructions, and then mentally prepared myself for the creative challenge to follow! The little pack – my chosen design was ‘Black and Diamond’, which are fashionable, and look really special – comes with 18 wraps and a card of various silver and pink diamante accents.

My first issue was the size of the wraps – my fingers are pretty long and thin (Emily has kindly referred to them as ‘witch-y’ before….thanks Em!) The widest size fitted my thumb really well, but the medium sizes were either too big or too small for my fingers. I carried on with the application anyway, but on fingers where the wrap was too big there were bubbles underneath the colouring where I couldn’t quite get it smooth. Also the accents are all connected so you have to cut each pattern out…and my shaky, uncreative hands left some of them looking fairly messy.

It was a shame really because they looked so nice on the packet, and the colours were right up my street! I think that possibly with a bit more practice I would be able to perfect the art and I’m sure that Elegant Touch’s other wraps, which only feature the accents, would be much easier to apply. Maybe those of you more accustomed to nail art application will love them, they’re just a little bit difficult for beginners I would say.”

Emily: Even though they were difficult to apply, much like all nail wraps unless you have the perfect sized nails for them, I still think they look pretty good for a first time attempt! Thanks Hol 🙂

Nima Make-Up Brushes

After finally becoming obsessed with different make-up looks, I’m also always on the look of for really good make-up brushes!

Recently, I’ve become a strong believer in a good brush. It doesn’t matter how expensive or how cheap your actual make-up is, if you use the right brush, you’ll get perfect results.

So when NIMA Brush sent us 8 of their collection, I was thrilled! (Although Kathryn obviously took 4 away for herself… how selfish 😉 )

I’d never heard of this make of brush before, as NIMA Brush is a new Irish cosmetic brush company specialising in Professional Make Up tools. NIMA Brush was established by long time Irish makeup artist, Niamh Martin, after over a decade working as a professional in the Irish and UK market. The aim was to provide fun, professional grade tools at low cost.

And it’s safe to say that aim has been met.

The brushes are soft, yet dense where they should be, and add definition, even coverage and blending where ever you feel necessary!

I’ll go through each brush one by one, and let you know how we got on:

Round Head Kabuki- €18

I’ve been using this as a blusher/bronzer brush and absolutely love it. It’s easy to use and a good size for the cheek and area you’re wanting to define.

Large shader

This has been great for sweeping the first layer of eyeshadow on the lid before blending a darker colour on top. It’s the perfect size for a quick coverage. It’s also brilliant for using highlighter on the top of the cheek bones and under the brow bone in particular.

Angled Brow

For my birthday last month, my friend Sadie bought me something that has been on the top of my make-up wish list for a long time- some Benefit Brow Zings! If you’ve not heard of the product, you put a wax on your brows before adding a powder, and in my opinion looks heaps better than a harsh pencil, leaving a defined and natural brow. The kit comes with two brushes, but I find the angled brush that comes with it slightly fiddly, and end up spending a LONG time doing my eyebrows with it, therefore have been using this brush! It’s the perfect size for the brow and the dense bristles let you add definition easily and quickly!

Angled Liner

I’ve not used this brush as much as the others, but it’s a brilliant way to apply liner to both the top and bottom of the eye. I’ve been using it to add a natural yet smokey look along the bottom lashes, blending liquid liner to the outer half and applying eyeshadow with it on the bottom of my eye.

The brushes are really good value for money, and I would say they rival Mac, Bobbi Brown, Real Techniques and Benefit brushes easily, yet being that slightly bit cheaper!

You can get them online at!

Barry M Glamour Puss Eye & Cheek Palette

We were recently sent an eyeshadow palette from Barry M full of festive, glittery goodness which we loved so much that we had to purchase another one to avoid a Kat(Paws) fight!

I’ve never tried out Barry M make-up products, but am a huge fan of their nail varnishes, as they come in so many colours and styles and i find the consistency easy to apply and long lasting, so was eager to give these eyeshadows a try!

At the moment, I am obsessed with different make-up looks, and have been watching numerous vlogger’s tutorials on how to do them perfectly, in particular Tanya Burr!
SO this palette was a very welcomed addition to my ever growing collection- and I have literally used it every day since receiving it!

The neutral tones are perfect for both day and night, featuring a creamy nude colour, which have been using all over the eyelid before adding the extra colours. Joining the cream is a gorgeous grey/blue colour, a jewelled berry colour which is VERY in right now, a dark green emerald hue, a browny bronze (which is my favourite for every day use) and a dark smokey charcoal colour- perfect for nights out.

As I say, I have been using the creamy colour all over the lid, before blending the days chosen colour on the outer half of my eye, blending it in and focusing on adding more definition into the crease. I’ve found that using a different eyeshadow and blending brush is better to use than the sponge applicators too.

Alongside that is a pink blusher, which i have been using alongside a Bobbi Brown bronzer just on the apples of my cheeks for a healthy looking glow.

This set is perfect for girls wanting to try out a variety of colours or just likes to mix and match on a day to day basis!

The pigmentation is great and the colours are festive, sparkly and can be used for an variety of occasions!

I absolutely love it, and I’m sure you will too! They’re available from Barry M stockists or online at, for a cheap as chips price of £6.49!

Kat’s Weekly Paw Prints #3

Good Evening!

Firstly, apologies for this being around a week late, but this past week or two have been crazy for both Emily and myself…we have, at work, what’s called Christmas Pull Up, which means we have to work longer hours than normal and extra days.

Have you all got your Christmas trees up? My Goddaughter Willow came to stay on Friday night for a sleepover as we were going shopping on Saturday morning, and even though it wasn’t technically December I said we could put the decorations up. So after trawling through boxes and bags of decorations, we finally chose a pink and gold theme for the tree…

Seen as I’ve been seeing trees, garlands and wreaths, I am (still) feeling rather festive…and so I decided to try out a fir green nail polish this week. As usual I used my OPI base and top coat, the Nails Inc Plumping top coat followed off by my new saviour the Elegant Tough Rapid Dry Spray. I also just recently discovered another NAIL HERO – the Bourjois 1 Seconde Dissolvant. It is a little pink pot with a nail polish remover soaked sponge inside…you pop your nail in there, give it a twirl and whoosh your nail polish comes off. Now I must be honest and say it takes a few seconds rather than just one but it is still much easier and quicker than the traditional way although I haven’t yet tried it on the dreaded glitter polishes!

So, here it is, Nails Inc Green Park…it is kind of a tealy green, and certainly reminds me of a fir tree! Quite bland for me to be honest but that makes a refreshing change, as there is so much glitter and sparkle going on everywhere right now, it is easy to match it with things.
